Become a Host Family

The people of Belarus are in need of your help to give their children a vision of a brighter future.

GrennadyMogilev, the city where our children live is a heavily industrialized, extremely polluted and contaminated city. By having a child from Belarus in your home for a month, by allowing them to breathe clean Manx air, eating fresh wholesome food, and enjoy sharing your family's life, you are giving the people of Belarus hope.

The Friends of Chernobyl's Children (Isle of Man) also supports the people of Belarus through regular visits undertaken by the group Co-ordinator & a committee member. The purpose of these visits is to provide humanitarian aid to the families & to find new children to join our group.

As a small independent charity we can guarantee that all funds are used for the benefit of the children and their families. None of the workers are paid; all give freely of their time and talents. The volunteer families who offer their homes for one month do so without any recompense.

Volunteers

Volunteers are always welcome to assist with the driving of mini buses & as helpers to accompany the children on their daily outings. Prospective drivers must be prepared to attend the MIDAS assessment-driving course. All host families & volunteers are thoroughly vetted by the IOM Police Vetting Unit prior to acceptance and will have the full support and guidance from the charity throughout the visits.

Fund raising

Although FOCC (Isle of Man) is affiliated to FOCC (GB), we are an autonomous group and are responsible for raising all funds required to bring the children to the Isle of Man.

Treasure Hunt

In order to continue with our work, the need to raise money is ongoing. The airfares alone for the children are rising each year and it costs hundreds of pounds to bring each child to the IOM. The charity also provides clothing, footwear & other essential items for each child.

Since the start of FOCC (Isle of Man) there have been a variety of fundraising events: Charity Dinner, Parish Walk, Flag days, Sailing Yacht challenges, Tombolas, Sponsored slims etc.

Sponsor a Child Scheme

To help fund the rising costs of bringing the children to the island, The Friends of Chernobyl's Children (Isle of Man) have set up a corporate sponsorship scheme.

Many companies, as well as individuals & trust funds have supported the charity in this way.

By making a donation of £350 to £500, sponsors can contribute towards the travel expenses of a child.

Sponsors will receive a certificate of thanks & the opportunity to meet the child or children they have sponsored at a BBQ that takes place during the month's visit.
